Kitsap Maritime Heritage Foundation

January 1, 2017

Hello Fellow Tall Ship Admirers,

We are sending this to let you know how the Tall Ship Fiddlers Dream restoration is progressing.  In our last newsletter we reported that the covering boards were in progress.  We are glad to report that they are now completed.  The next item to install is the remaining decking.  We have already started this and it will continue until sometime in the spring.  The work parties to perform this installation will be advertised on our web site or social media and those who have volunteered will be sent the information directly via email.

With the deck work nearing completion we are offering you a chance to be a permanent part of the schooner Fiddlers Dream by purchasing a Deck Plank Piece.  A Deck Plank Piece is 6 inches in length and varies in width dependent on the board location.  A chart of the Deck Plank Pieces will be drawn and displayed on the boat with your name on it.  You can purchase different areas of the deck as follows:

Covering Board Plank – planks used at the outside edge of the deck, 10 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick- $200

King Plank – planks used down the center of the deck, 8 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick – $150

Deck Plank – planks used to cover the remaining of the deck, 3.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick – $100

We are excited to offer you this “piece” of our ship and as we complete restoration areas, more offers will be made to “Own” a part of the ship.

When the deck planking is completed we will have a celebration (Whiskey Plank Party) and invites will go out to our supporters.  Look for this announcement in upcoming newsletters and our website/social media.

Our volunteers are doing great work and the

Shipwrights are very happy with the results of the

hard work they are doing.  If you want to join them,

work parties are available during the week

or on weekends.  If you would like to join in

contact us at 360-633-7421 or send us an

email at or look us

up on our web site  Also,

if you would like a tour, just contact us.

As stated in the last newsletter, we need to raise $200,000 to complete the restoration of Fiddlers Dream.  Our goal is to be complete by June 2017.  Please consider helping us raise the funds necessary.  Now we have added a new way for you to help us raise funds (Deck Plank Piece).  So to recap all the ways you can help here they are:

Amazon Smile – If you want to order something through Amazon, go to and choose Kitsap Maritime as your charity of choice.  Then order what you want and .5% will go to Kitsap Maritime at no additional cost to you.  It’s a great program and we hope you take advantage of it.

Memberships into Kitsap Maritime Heritage Foundation – There are different levels that offer discounts and other items for being a member and these are described on our web site.  They are anywhere from $40 to $1500.  At this time we are offering these memberships for a 2 year period.  This means it will start on January 1, 2017 and end December 31, 2018.  As a member you will also receive the newsletters and other information keeping you informed of what your organization is doing.

Deck Plank Piece – As described above you can own a “piece” of Fiddlers Dream by purchasing a Deck Plank Piece.

Cash Donation – Just contact us and we will be glad to assist you or use the enclosed envelope and send a check to Kitsap Maritime.

In Kind Donation – We are always looking for tools and equipment to help with restoration.  If you have something you think we can use, give us a call and we will let you know.

Remember, all of your donations are tax deductible since we are a nonprofit organization.

We are looking forward to this next year and have great events planned from parades to exhibitions.  Learn about these on our web site and social media.  Come and visit us and see our progress and learn about our plans for the education program and sailing excursions.  Enclosed is an envelope to return your donation or go to our website or our Facebook page.

Thank You,

Jonathan Thomas

Chairman of the Board
