Kitsap Maritime Newsletter December 2016

Hello Fellow Tall Ship Admirers,

We are sending this to let you know how the Tall Ship Fiddlers Dream restoration is progressing. It has been a very busy year for everyone involved with this great project. Just to inform you about where we started and where we are today, here are some dates of achievement.

January 2014 – Ownership of Fiddlers Dream was donated to Kitsap Maritime
July 2014 – Completed the down rigging and required hull repairs
January 2015 – Removed all of the non-serviceable items from the ship such as furniture,
plumbing and decking (which we found to be rotten in some areas)
March 2015 – Started replacing the deck beams and placing sub deck
March 2016 – Completed installation of the new sub decking
July 2016 – Installed the framework for a new chart house
August 2016 – Did a lot of sanding and preserving in preparation for the deck planking
October 2016 – Completed installation of the King Planks (center)
November 2016 – In progress of completing the cover boards (sides) and then start installing the deck planking in December

It has definitely been a busy time for us and the restoration is turning out to be quite complicated to meet all of the Coast Guard requirements. Our crew of experienced shipwrights and volunteers has had a challenge through this project and there are more ahead.

We recently have been blessed with new volunteers
And they are hard at work under the guidance of our
Shipwrights.

This picture shows our crew installing the
covering boards in November.

Work parties are available during the week
or on weekends. If you would like to join in
contact us at 360-633-7421 or send us an
email at kitsapmaritime@gmail.com or look us
up on our web site www.kitsapmaritime.org.

We need to raise $200,000 to complete the
restoration of Fiddlers Dream. Our goal is to
be complete by June 2017. Please consider
helping us raise the funds necessary.

We appreciate all of the support we have received from our donators of time and money. We have recently added new ways to help us finish our restoration. One is through Amazon Smile. If you want to order something through Amazon, go to www.smile.amazon.com and choose Kitsap Maritime as your charity of choice. Then order what you want and 5% will go to Kitsap Maritime at no additional cost to you. It’s a great program and we hope you take advantage of it.
